The Denver Municipal Band is celebrating its birthday with free concerts throughout the summer.

State of play: The oldest continuously playing professional concert band in the U.S. marks its 165th anniversary this year with 20 free concerts across Denver, beginning Friday at City Park.

The family-friendly performances take place at local parks and indoor venues.

June 28 at City Park Jazz Festival (6pm)

July 11 at Southmoor Park (7:30pm)
July 12 at Washington Park (6:30pm)
July 18 at Harvey Park (7pm)
July 26 at Arapahoe County Fair (1:30pm)
Aug. 4 at Pinecrest Village Park (6:30pm)

If you go: Friday's show takes place near the Pavilion, along with a 10-piece brass choir, starting at 6pm.
