If you want a tour of Denver, put on your running shoes.
State of play: The Colfax Marathon bills itself as the "ultimate urban tour of Denver" — and the 20th anniversary course leans into that reputation, turning the race into a running tour through some of the city's most recognizable landmarks.
Sunday's full marathon sends runners through Empower Field at Mile High (twice) and a Denver fire station, and around Sloan's Lake.
The half-marathon follows a similar route, weaving through the same fire station as well as the Denver Zoo.
Saturday's 5K stays closer to the race hub in City Park.
By the numbers: More than 28,000 runners are expected this weekend.
The intrigue: Organizers are upping the spectacle for the marathon's 20th year, with 32 performances — from Elvis impersonators to dragon boats gliding across Sloan's Lake.
If you go: The party continues at the City Park finish line, where racers and spectators can hang out in a beer garden and catch live local musicians.
Be smart: Don't forget about rolling road closures between 5am–1pm. Click here for a full course map and general closure info.
