Denver's Carrie Baird competes as a castaway chef

Dig in: In her latest TV adventure, Baird — the chef and partner behind Fox and the Hen and Bar Dough — is a contestant on "Chopped Castaways," a new Food Network survival-style cooking show where competitors battle the elements as much as the cooking.

What to expect: The eight-episode series puts a dozen top chefs on a remote Caribbean island where they must build a kitchen on the beach, compete in physical challenges for ingredients and cook over an open fire.

• The chefs who finish each challenge at the bottom compete in a head-to-head battle.
• Three culinary stars judge the competition, and the last chef remaining wins $100,000.

What she's saying: "It's the equator, it's very warm, it would rain, it was windy. The hardest part was keeping sand out of the judges' food," Baird told the Denver Post.

What to watch: The series debuts at 10pm Tuesday on the Food Network.
