U.S. Rep Lauren Boebert raised a paltry $90,000 in the first three months of the year and reported just $219,000 in the bank ahead of the November election.
Why it matters: The Windsor Republican's fundraising is by far the weakest of any Colorado congressional incumbent, according to an Axios Denver analysis of new campaign filings.
State of play: Her Democratic rival, Eileen Laubacher, a retired Navy rear admiral and former National Security Council member, raised $2.1 million — more than any other Colorado candidate in the same period — and posted $3 million in cash to start April.
- The disparities are generating alarms for Boebert, even though the 4th District is the most Republican-leaning territory in the state.
Case in point: In a fundraising email sent Tuesday, a day before federal finance reports were filed, Boebert pleaded with supporters to open their wallets and close the gap.
- "This campaign needs your help, right now," she said.
The big picture: Most other congressional incumbents in Colorado bested their rivals in fundraising in the first quarter.
8th District: Republican U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans posted a $1.2 million fundraising haul to give him $3.4 million in the bank.
- The top Democratic fundraiser is state Rep. Manny Rutinel, who raised $952,000 and finished with $1.8 million.
1st District: Democratic incumbent Diana DeGette raised $264,000 — more than both her rivals combined — and started April with $636,000 in her account.
The other side: The other exception to incumbent dominance is Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank in the 5th District. His Democratic opponent, Jessica Killin, outraised him $668,000 to $345,000.
- Regardless, the El Paso County race will get expensive by November. Killin reported $1.5 million in her account at the end of March, and Crank had $1.2 million.
