Time to assemble your pit crew — and your car.

Zoom in: The Red Bull Soapbox Race returns to Denver June 13 at Empower Field at Mile High, marking the third time it will take place in Colorado — and where the event made its U.S. debut in 2002.

Colorado last hosted the Soapbox Race in 2008 at Red Rocks.

How it works: Teams must assemble homemade cars capable of handling a winding race track only powered by gravity. Each vehicle can be no bigger than six-feet wide by 12-feet long, and at least seven-inches above ground.

Teams are judged on design, pre-race performance and showmanship.

What they're saying: "A soapbox should be an extension of its team. It's wild. It's crazy. It can be anything they want. It just can't be ordinary," the online race rules read.

What's next: Applications are available online until April 12.

Up to 40 teams will make the cut, with each team comprising up to five people.
