The state's Division of Motor Vehicles is launching a major system upgrade this week.
Why it matters: The work will cause temporary outages, but officials are pledging a streamlined system and a better customer experience.
Driving the news: The new online portal is adding a secure log-in and the ability to enroll in email reminders about vehicle registration and license renewals.
Online services for driver's licenses went offline Tuesday just before midnight.
In-person appointments at DMV offices are not available after 3pm Friday. Express kiosk transactions will stop at 7pm Friday.
Everything will reopen next Tuesday after the system update is completed.
The fine print: The outage will affect local county clerk offices, state business filing and voter registration services.
