Denver Arts Week marked with free museums, expanded art walks

The 19th annual Denver Arts Week gets underway Friday, beginning a 10-day celebration of the Mile High City's local art and cultural institutions.

Dig in: The event includes first Friday art walks showcasing local galleries in five creative districts and special events at Denver's premier museums.

Denver Arts Week will encompass more than 500 total events.

Between the lines: Art walks are a free opportunity to see dozens of galleries, meet local creatives and purchase original works.

Participating districts include the RiNo Arts District, the Art District on Santa Fe, and the Tennyson Berkeley Association, plus 40 West Arts District in Lakewood and Aurora Cultural Arts District.

The intrigue: Twenty metro-area museums and cultural centers will host Saturday night at the museum events on Saturday, opening from 5-10pm — all for free.

The participating institutions include the Children's Museum of Denver, the Denver Art Museum, History Colorado Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver and Museo de las Americas.

Zoom in: A free shuttle will be available Saturday night for anyone hoping to museum hop.
