Don the lederhosen, hoist your stein and celebrate Oktoberfest this month.
State of play: The annual celebration in Munich, Germany, serves as the inspiration for plenty of local fun.
- Area events include costume contests, keg bowling, live music and kids' activities.
If you go: Here's a rundown of the festivities, many of which are free to attend.
🍺 Highlands Oktoberfest: The second annual event runs 10am-6pm Saturday along 32nd Avenue from Julian to Perry streets and features a dachshund race as well as German beer.
🍺 Oktoberfest: The popular South Pearl Street festival is noon to 10pm Saturday in front of Platt Park Brewing. Expect live music, beer and a brat-eating contest.
🍺 Oktoberfest Block Party: Longtable Brewhouse in Denver is taking over the streets to celebrate with beer releases and contests. The event runs 11am-6pm Saturday.
🍺 Oktoberfest: Lone Tree Brewing's location will feature a stein-hoisting contest as well as traditional polka music from 11am-6pm Saturday.
🍺 DOGtoberfest: This festival is for the dogs and their humans. The fifth annual event begins at noon Saturday at River North Brewery's taproom, located on Washington Street in Denver.

🍺 Longmont Oktoberfest: Part music festival, part beer garden — the Longmont event features headliners on stage and gets going at noon Sept. 20 in Thompson Park. Ticket prices start at $32.80.
🍺 Snowmass Oktoberfest: Venture to the mountains for this gathering that runs from noon to 8pm Sept. 27-28 at Snowmass Mall and the base village.
