A tropical bird not seen in Colorado in nearly a century is lingering in metro Denver two weeks after its surprise debut.
Why it matters: This is only the third reported sighting of a wood stork in Colorado โ and the first since 1934.
The latest: On Monday, we confirmed the juvenile bird was still wading at Alexx & Michael's Pond in Broomfield.
The big picture: Wood storks โ North America's only native stork โ typically stick to the swamps of Florida and Mexico, according to the National Audubon Society.
The bottom line: Its rare Colorado cameo belongs on birder bucket lists.
