Half of Colorado residents in the last year reported experiencing economic hardship, according to the latest analysis of a Colorado Health Foundation poll.
Why it matters: The numbers indicate a deep fissure between the state's haves and the have-nots, particularly among vulnerable populations and people of color.
State of play: A third or more of residents are experiencing more than one hardship, such as skipping meals, postponing medical care or seeing wage cuts, and 1 in 5 experienced three or more in the previous 12 months.
Those with mental health problems are enduring hardships at a higher rate than the general population.
More than 1 in 5 Coloradans have cut back other expenses, worked multiple jobs or fallen behind on payments to afford housing.
What they're saying: "There's a significant number of Coloradans who are experiencing multiple [hardships]," pollster Lori Weigel said in a recent briefing about the results.
