The self-serve, pay-as-you-go tap room has arrived in the high country.
Why it matters: Beer tastes better sitting outside on a sunny patio in the upper 60s.
Zoom in: Head an hour — or two, traffic depending — west of Denver and take the first exit after the Eisenhower tunnel. You'll find Thirsty Pika Taproom tucked amid the outlet shops.

State of sips: Choose from a wall of 30 taps, which include ciders, kombuchas, wine and a margarita. Touch screens can tell you more about each drink.

How it works: Get a card linked to your credit card to activate the taps, and you're charged by the ounce.
Vibe check: Inside, find a compact, clean space with rows of wooden tables and bar seating. Outdoor seats are limited.
