Colorado Democrats join calls for Hegseth, Waltz ousting

• Bennet pointed to their denials that the chat included classified information or "war plans" as part of his case for their removal. He also called on Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to resign.
• DeGette is pushing for a full investigation to determine whether any criminal activity occurred, suggesting it could prompt the officials' firings.

What they're saying: "The level of incompetence shown by the Secretary of Defense and National Security Advisor is staggering," DeGette, of Denver, said in a statement.

• "There must be accountability, and their failure to take responsibility while gaslighting the public about what exactly happened demands answers," she added.

Zoom in: Rep. Joe Neguse is also urging Hegseth and Waltz to step down. In a Bluesky post Wednesday morning, the U.S. congressman from Lafayette wrote that Hegseth "should be fired IMMEDIATELY."

• Rep. Jason Crow issued a statement Wednesday afternoon calling Hegseth's actions "reckless" and asking for his resignation.

The other side: Some Republicans in Colorado's congressional delegation are standing firmly behind Hegseth.

• He "is doing a fantastic job as our Secretary of Defense" and "has my complete and total support," U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert told Axios Denver in a statement.
• A spokesperson for U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans declined to comment.
