The Black Friday beer holiday makes a decadent return this year.
State of play: The day after Thanksgiving is when national and local breweries release rare and special stouts in bottles and taprooms.
- Here's what you need to know this year.
π€© Fiction Beer Co. in Denver is hosting its annual Series of Fortunate Stouts tasting starting at noon with eight variations on tap at both its locations.
- This year the brewery made caramel pistachio, German chocolate, cinnamon maple, honey vanilla and three barrel-aged editions.
πͺ New Terrain Brewing in Golden will release three variations of its Black Planet, a Belgian imperial porter with tangerine and vanilla, including rum-barrel and whiskey-barrel editions.
πΊ WestFax Brewing in Denver hosts Black Friday bingo starting at 2pm and debuting four special beers.
- New offerings include a Christmas Ale, Belgian Quad and schwarzbier lager.
π WeldWerks Brewing in Greeley is debuting two bombastic barrel-aged stout series editions.
- Rye vs. Rye Medianoche uses four different rye malts and the beer is aged in Templeton and Willett rye whiskey barrels for 28 months. Expect cinnamon raisin bread flavors.
- Medianoche Nieve is aged for 29 to 33 months in Blantons, Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey bourbon barrels and features an addition of toasted coconut, vanilla beats and marshmallows.
π Wiley Roots in Greeley is releasing two, small-batch beers and starting its annual No Peeking contest, a mystery giveaway for those who spent $25 on-site.
π Cerberus Brewing in Colorado Springs will release two new beers, a yulebier made with gourds and holiday spices and a barrel-aged barleywine that is available in bottles.
The intrigue: Goose Island's barrel-aged Bourbon County stouts are among the most sought-after beers when released each Black Friday.
- This year's six-variation lineup features a Macaroon Stout, a cask-finished edition and the return of the ultra-coveted Rare Stout.
My thought bubble: If you can find the limited variations, don't miss the Bardstown Cask Finish Stout. It is nutty with marzipan and cherry flavors that warm your body.
- The Macaroon Stout may be the most surprising edition with toasted coconut, cocoa nibs and ginger that leaves a candied flavor.
