It's time to start planning for the Thanksgiving jogging tradition affectionately known as the Turkey Trot.
Why it matters: A good Turkey Day run or walk allows you to burn some calories for a cause.
The big picture: We rounded up five Denver metro runs to join this month.
- Pro tip: Some prices increase closer to race time.
Pumpkin Pie 5K/10K
- Nov. 16 — Colorado Runner will host two races at City Park, with participants getting a piece of pumpkin pie at the finish line. Cost: Starts at $40.
Arvada 10k Turkey Trek & 5k Turkey Trot
- Nov. 23 — At 10K, this race is for folks looking for a serious Turkey Day challenge to raise money for Community Table, a local food bank. Cost: Starts at $39 for adults.
51st Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot
- Nov. 28 — Money raised from this race at South High School helps children in school and young adults with educational opportunities and workforce development. Cost: $60.57 for adults.
Alpine Bank Boulder Thanksgiving Day 5K
- Nov. 28 — Flatiron Park in Boulder will host an adult 5K and a children's 1K-fun run to raise money for Harvest of Hope Pantry. Cost: $38.86 for adults.
The Plum Creek Church 20th Annual Turkey ROCK Trot
- Nov. 28 — This Castle Rock 5K raises funds for Help & Hope Center, which provides Douglas and Elbert county residents emergency assistance. Cost: $45 for adults.
Between the lines: If you don't want to run or walk but still want to participate, many of these organizations need help setting up races and other programming, so be sure to check their "volunteer" pages.
