Four incumbent members of Congress cruised to easy victories in Colorado as counting continued in four other contested races.
Why it matters: Colorado's races will help determine which party gains the majority in the U.S. House.
State of play: In the most competitive contest, the 8th District north of Denver, Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo is seeking reelection for the first time. She remained locked in a close race against Republican state Rep. Gabe Evans, according to early vote tallies.
In the 3rd District race on the Western Slope, Adam Frisch's well-funded campaign is looking for an upset against Republican Jeff Hurd in the red-leaning district. Frisch narrowly lost in 2022 to U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert.
- But early vote counts showed Frisch trailing Hurd, 48% to 50% respectively.
The intrigue: Boebert moved to the 4th District, the state's most conservative turf on the Eastern Plains, to boost her reelection chances.
- She held a smaller-than-expected lead over Democrat Trisha Calvarese, according to results posted at 8pm. The Associated Press declared her the winner about two hours after polls closed.
- Calvarese outspent Boebert 10-to-1 in advertising at $1.4 million but it didn't move the needle enough.
The big picture: In four other districts, incumbent Democrats Diana DeGette (1st), Joe Neguse (2nd), Jason Crow (6th) and Brittany Pettersen (7th) easily cruised to victory.
- The open race for the conservative 5th District in Colorado Springs drew a challenge but Republican Jeff Crank is projected to win.
