Democrats are battling to keep their supermajority in the Colorado state House, but they will need repeat wins in a handful of battleground districts.
Why it matters: A supermajority gives Democrats extraordinary power and more votes to advance their policy priorities.
State of play: The result is expected to come down to five districts in which both parties are spending huge sums and bombarding voters with campaign advertising.
- House District 16: This Colorado Springs district favors Republicans but is held by Democratic state Rep. Stephanie Vigil, one of the chamber's more progressive members. She faces Republican Rebecca Keltie.
- House District 19: This district straddles Boulder and Weld counties. Former state Rep. Dan Woog (R-Erie) is campaigning for another term against Democrat Jillaire McMillan, who replaced outgoing Rep. Jennifer Parenti.
- House District 25: State Rep. Tammy Story is looking to hold the seat for Democrats against Republican George Mumma. Story won the seat by roughly 700 votes in 2022.
- House District 43: This tight race features Democratic state Rep. Bob Marshall and GOP challenger Matt Burcham. Outside groups are spending big money to oust Marshall.
- House District 50: Democratic state Rep. Mary Young is getting a big financial boost as she seeks her final term. She faces Republican rival Ryan Gonzalez.
