Anthony Mackie stars in apocalyptic thriller filmed in Colorado

Driving the news: Mackie will be in Denver next week to promote the film for the 47th Denver Film Festival, which starts Friday night.

• The festival runs through Nov. 10, and will feature 185 films, documentaries and shorts.

Between the lines: Directed by George Nolfi, "Elevation" also stars Morena Baccarin and Maddie Hasson, and includes Brad Fuller, the man behind "A Quiet Place" and "The Purge," among its producers.

State of play: The film was shot on location in Golden and Boulder, which plays a major role in the movie's plot, as Mackie must travel below the 8,000-foot threshold to provide medical supplies for an ailing child.

• The dangerous trek sees Mackie, Baccarin and Hasson working to elude a monster that's decimated the human population.

What's next: Mackie and Nolfi will participate in a post-screening Q&A at the MCA Denver's Holiday Theater on Nov. 4.
