Denver Walls returns to RiNo with more events

In its second year, the Denver Walls festival is more than murals on buildings — it's a behind-the-scenes look at how street art is made.

Why it matters: The festival is one of the city's most iconic and the street art produced in the River North Arts District is a tourism draw for locals and visitors alike.

What they're saying: "Public art is really to bring people together in public spaces," organizer Ally Grimm (aka A.L. Grime) tells us.

By the numbers: This year's festival features 17 artists from around the world painting murals on 13 walls in RiNo. (See a map.)

The artists include Ledania, a famous Latin American artist, the duo TelmoMiel from the Netherlands and local talent like Anna Charney, father-son duo Patrick Kane McGregor x Tristan McGregor and Kendall Kippley.

The intrigue: "We focused on a balance between artists who have paved the path with lifelong careers and also local artists who are really challenging themselves and pushing themselves outside the box," Grimm says.

If you go: The public festivities begin Wednesday with a free, all-ages workshop at Blue Moon in RiNo and continue Thursday with a 3-on-3 paint battle at the brewery.

Friday is a free gallery show at RedLine called "Wet Paint" that features works from 80-plus artists.
The closing celebration is Saturday with live music, food trucks, a skateboard contest and an artist market taking over the Rino Art Park.
