I-70 traffic holds at Floyd Hill will disrupt traffic for months

State of play: Starting Wednesday, 20-minute traffic holds will occur between 9am and 3pm — up to six times a day Monday through Thursday, according to the Colorado of Transportation Department.

• The holds are expected to cause additional 45-minute delays as traffic clears.
• Eastbound traffic will be held at the Veterans Memorial Tunnel. Westbound traffic will stop at the Hidden Valley exchange at Exit 243.

What they're saying: The holds will allow crews to blast and clear rock from the hillsides as part of the I-70 realignment project near Floyd Hill that will replace bridges over Clear Creek and straighten out highway curves to improve traffic flow, officials said.

BFD: The rock blasting and clearing operations will last as long as two months — impacting the early ski season and extending toward the holidays.
