Denver Water: Don't water your lawn at 5am Monday, Wednesday and Friday

• The utility wants some of its customers — 80% of whom use watering systems — to switch to a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule.

What they're saying: "Our pretty educated guess is that when people buy a new irrigation controller the default is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m, and that is when we see our max hours," Greg Fisher, Denver Water's manager of demand planning and efficiency, told the Sun.

The big picture: Denver is not alone in this problem. Thornton's water utility sees the same demand but says its system can handle it for now.
