By the numbers: In 2022, there were 25,496 same-sex couple households in Colorado, and about 54% of them were married, a new Census Bureau report finds.
That's up from 15,402 same-sex couple households in 2014, the year before gay marriage was legalized nationwide. At that time, 36% were reported to be married.
The big picture: There were about 1.3 million same-sex couple households nationwide as of 2022, with 58% of them married, per the latest American Community Survey (ACS) data, compared to about 565,000 in 2008.
About 41% of current same-sex couples got married between 2015 and 2019.
