Park of the Week: Observatory Park

Address: 2930 E Iliff Ave.

Amenities: A softball field, tennis courts, playground and picnic areas.

The vibe: This is a great place to take your kids, host a picnic or go for a contemplative walk.

Fun fact: The neighborhood takes its name from the University of Denver, which was founded in 1864 as Colorado Seminary in what's now downtown, before moving to the area in 1892, according to the Denver Public Library.

• The campus is just a few blocks west of the park.

If you go: The park's centerpiece and namesake is the Chamberlin Observatory, a 134-year-old Romanesque building owned and operated by DU, which regularly hosts stargazing events.

• Public night viewings allowing people to see through its 28-foot-long refractor telescope are so popular, the next available date isn't until May 2025.
