Two Colorado schools could make some noise during March Madness.

The big picture: Colorado and Colorado State are contenders for "at-large" berths in the NCAA men's tournament, though either can secure a bid by winning the Pac-12 and Mountain West tournament, respectively.

  • Air Force can also make it if it wins the Mountain West, but it's a long shot.

Fun fact: The Rams beat the Buffs, 88-83, in the schools' only regular season game in Fort Collins last November.

Between the lines: There are a limited number of "at-large" berths, which are awarded to schools that don't win their conference tournament but are deemed good enough to secure a spot in the 68-team field.

What to watch: The Buffs, Rams and Falcons this week start conference tournament play.

  • Colorado will play Arizona State/Utah Thursday at 9:30pm.
  • Colorado State plays San Jose State at 2:30pm Wednesday and Air Force takes on New Mexico Wednesday at 5pm.
