Four school districts in Cuyahoga County are asking voters to pitch in additional dollars Tuesday, but the stakes are particularly high in Strongsville, where officials are warning of sweeping cuts.

Why it matters: If voters reject Issue 9, Strongsville City Schools says it could eliminate all middle and high school sports, sharply reduce busing and limit high school students to five classes per day.

By the numbers: The five-year, 6.7-mill operating levy would generate approximately $15.4 million annually.

It's a steep hike. Homeowners would pay about $235 annually per $100,000 in property value, up from $118.

State of play: The district has already cut nearly $5 million in staff and programs, and officials have outlined additional reductions that could eliminate scores of positions.

Flashback: Strongsville voters sharply rejected a school levy in November 2024 and a separate bond issue for school construction this May.

Go deeper: Levies are also on the ballot in Euclid, Cleveland Heights-University Heights, Independence, Garfield Heights and Orange.
