"Street Fighter" director returns to his Cleveland roots

Flashback: Sakurai attended University School and was a child actor — he played one of the street-hockey demons in Kevin Smith's "Dogma."

• He went on to direct "The Eric Andre Show," and episodes of other TV comedies.

What he's saying: "I want [Street Fighter] to have emotional pathos and feel handmade," Sakurai told Cleveland Magazine.

• "I'm very lucky that Capcom and Legendary wanted something that felt so singular and weird and not like other typical IP-based stuff."

Sakurai is back in Cleveland Wednesday on a press tour for the film. He will appear for a Q&A at a sold-out promotional screening at the Cinematheque.
