Cleveland councilman blasts Bibb's new political coalition

• The Bibb-led group has positioned itself as a centrist alternative to both MAGA Republicanism and what it calls the "far-left dysfunction" of groups like the Democratic Socialists of America, ABC News reports.

What they're saying: Shah, council's lone DSA member, called the comparison "delusional at best and dishonest at worst."

• "Please focus on your job, and stop looking for the next one," Shah told an absent Bibb during Monday's Council meeting.
• Axios has reached out to Bibb's camp for comment.

Zoom out: Shah said centrist Democrats, not socialists, have repeatedly failed to deliver transformative economic policies at the both the city and state level.

• He cited the recent temporary gas tax holiday, which will pull $725 million from the state budget and he said passed because statehouse Democrats failed to stand up to Republicans looking for an easy win before the election.

The last word: "It was not socialists that have brought you the last 60 years of decline," Shah said. "It's been capitalists."
