RTA wins $20 million for Green Line station upgrades

The Federal Transit Administration has awarded the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) $20 million to upgrade stations along the Green Line Rapid.

Why it matters: Once the work is complete, every rail station in RTA's system will be accessible to riders with disabilities.

Zoom in: The grant, funded through the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will help rehabilitate seven of the Green Line's 11 stations between Tower City and Green Road in Shaker Heights.

Improvements include new concrete platforms with tactile warning panels, redesigned ramps, sidewalks and parking facilities.

Between the lines: The rebuilt stations will also be compatible with RTA's new railcar fleet, expected to begin service on the Blue and Green lines in 2028.
