Former Notre Dame College heads to the auction block

The former Notre Dame College campus is heading to auction Thursday, and the city of South Euclid wants in on the action.

Why it matters: The lush, 50-acre site is a prime redevelopment opportunity in the eastern suburbs, with potential for housing, parks and senior living facilities.

The latest: South Euclid recently submitted a $7.9 million bid, the minimum required to enter Thursday's auction, per News 5.

Mayor Georgine Welo said the goal is not for South Euclid to permanently own the campus, but to partner with community organizations and developers who "appreciate its legacy."

Catch up quick: Notre Dame College closed in 2024 amid financial struggles. A foreclosure tied to more than $20 million in debt pushed the property into receivership and a court-ordered sale.

An earlier $7.5 million bid from a Jewish day school set the auction's floor price.

What's next: If South Euclid wins, it would use short-term debt to buy the campus, then resell all or parts of it to developers.
