Boxing champ Abdullah Mason brings title fight home to Cleveland

Boxing champion and Northeast Ohio native Abdullah Mason will look to generate fireworks in Cleveland this summer.

State of play: Mason, the current WBO lightweight champion, will defend his title against former IBF super-featherweight champion Joe Cordina at the Wolstein Center on July 4.

Cleveland native and welterweight Tiger Johnson will fight Christopher Guerrero on the undercard.

The intrigue: Mason, who is from Bedford, defeated Sam Noakes for the lightweight championship in November.

At 21 years old, Mason is the youngest active champion in men's professional boxing.

What's next: Tickets for the July 4 event go on sale Friday.

The fights will air live on TNT and streaming service DAZN.
