There's a moment early in Season 10 of "Love Is Blind" when Brianna McNees, a contestant from Columbus, returns from a social gathering and laments: "I expected more depth to this."
- Maybe she signed up for the wrong show.
Why it matters: The new season of Netflix's popular reality series is set in Ohio, where men and women from Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati look for their soulmates, but are far more likely to become cringeworthy viral sensations.
How it works: The first six 1-hour episodes, out now on Netflix, feature 32 people "meeting" each other in separate pods, without knowing what their potential partners look like.
- Some pairs get engaged and go on vacation before moving in together.
- More episodes will drop the next three Wednesdays as we find out which couples make it down the aisle.
Warning: There are some SPOILERS for those first six episodes ahead.
Zoom in: An O-H-I-O breaks out during the opening minutes of the first episode as Nick Lachey, who hosts the series with his wife, Vanessa, enters the room.
- Lachey, a member of pop group 98 Degrees, grew up in Cincinnati.
The intrigue: Most of the contestants are from Columbus, but there are several Clevelanders to follow.
- Mike Gibney, a sales manager from Cleveland, gets engaged but struggles with his fiancée not wanting kids.
- Ashley Carpenter, a claims manager from Ashtabula, falls for a former professional soccer player, who might be this season's top creep.
- Devonta Anderson, a loan officer from Medina, begins dating a woman of color for the first time.
👋🏾👋🏻 Troy teamed up with Axios Columbus' Alissa Widman Neese to offer their thoughts on the first batch of episodes.
Who is your favorite contestant so far?
Troy: I like Tyler. She wears her heart on her sleeve. Her motto — "Jesus died single. I don't need to die single" — is utterly ridiculous, yet kind of touching.
Alissa: I've only watched the first two episodes as of this writing, but this newbie didn't expect to get emotionally invested so quickly.
- Victor and Christine's story is honestly pretty wholesome so far.
Who is your least favorite?
Troy: Kevan seems like a nice guy, but his indecisiveness drives me nuts.
- Dude, two amazing women want to marry you. Choose one!
Alissa: Steven, the self-proclaimed "Sensitive Sensei." His fight with Emma gave me the ick.
Do you think any of these couples will get married?
Troy: Victor and Christine get engaged fast, which is usually a good sign.
- I also think Mike (Go Cleveland!) has a good chance if he can get over his fiancée, Emma, being messy.
Alissa: Jordan is a friend of a friend, so I'm rooting for him and Amber.
What are you looking forward to in the coming episodes?
Troy: The inevitable demise. It's one thing to go on vacation with an attractive person, but living with them is another monster.
- Most of these couples are going down in flames, and I'm here for it.
Alissa: I'm excited to play "I spy Columbus!" once they're back in the Buckeye State.
