AHL All-Star Classic skates back to Cleveland after 85 years

The American Hockey League is bringing its annual All-Star Classic to Cleveland in 2027.

Why it matters: It will be the first time Cleveland — home of the AHL's Monsters – has hosted the game since the inaugural classic in 1942.

State of play: The two-day event at Rocket Arena starts with the All-Star Skills Competition on Feb. 7.

Things culminate with the All-Star Challenge on Feb. 8, where players from the league's four divisions face off in a three-on-three, round-robin tournament.

Flashback: Cleveland Arena hosted the AHL's first-ever All-Star Classic on Feb. 3, 1942.

The game saw the East All-Stars defeat the West, whose roster included five members of the Cleveland Barons.
