👋 Sam here. The best thing I ate this week was the Pizza Week special at La Pecora Pizzabar on Larchmere.
State of play: Dozens of Northeast Ohio restaurants are dishing up signature pies for $12 or less all week.
La Pecora's offering doesn't sound all that adventurous on paper — a cheese pizza with tomato sauce, fresh garlic, oregano and shaved pecorino cheese.
Yes, but: It's prepared in the kitchen's wood-fired oven in the "New Haven style" — a Neapolitan spinoff distinguished by a thin, charred, irregular crust.
Verdict: Served with a side of hot honey, it was my favorite thin-crust pizza I've had in quite some time.
Bonus points for the free cheesy bread, drizzled in balsamic vinaigrette, which I thought was exclusively a happy hour perk.
Between the pies: La Pecora is the brainchild of Juan and Carlos Vergara, who also operate Barroco, Hola Tacos, Amazonia and Pulpo Beer Co.
Stop by: 12712 Larchmere Blvd.
Enter through Barroco, next door.
