Cavs Corner, Week 2: Withstanding the injury wave

Zoom in: After his hot start, Sam Merrill missed all three games with a hip contusion. Jarrett Allen sprained his finger and missed two. Donovan Mitchell missed one with a sore hamstring.

The big picture: The Cavs are treading water. Despite a few unlikely early outliers (Chicago and Philadelphia), the great mass of teams in the Eastern Conference are hovering around .500.

• The second-year wing has provided a much-needed scoring boost with so many stars unavailable. He started all three games this week and is shooting 50% from the field and 44% from deep to start the season.

Stat du jour: On Sunday, Evan Mobley recorded his 431st blocked shot, surpassing Roy Hinson and moving to number seven on the Cavs franchise leaderboard.

• He has recorded at least one block in each of his first seven games. His longest block streak: 15 games.
