Lawsuit: Apartment complex shut out Section 8 renters

The big picture: Seven other municipalities in the region have passed similar laws banning "source of income" discrimination.

Zoom in: According to the complaint, Huntington Green required voucher holders to earn three times the full monthly rent — between $1,075 and $2,715 — and refused to process their applications or complete required paperwork.

• Plaintiffs say they lost vouchers, faced eviction, or paid extra costs because of the denials.

What they're saying: "The city outlawed source-of-income discrimination to ensure inclusion," said Kris Keniray, associate director of the Fair Housing Center, in a press release.

• "Huntington Green must be held to account."

The other side: An email seeking comment from Huntington Green was not returned.

• The complex has not yet responded to the suit, but has asked the judge for additional time to do so.
