Wilco returns to Cleveland for highly anticipated Cain Park concert

One of the most anticipated concerts of the summer takes place Thursday night, not at a venue like Blossom Music Center or Rocket Arena, but at Cain Park's Evans Amphitheater.

Why it matters: Wilco's show at the 2,700-capacity venue in Cleveland Heights is the Chicago band's first Northeast Ohio gig in a decade and sold out in a matter of days this past April.

State of play: It's billed as an "Evening with Wilco," meaning no opening act and two full sets from the band with a short intermission in between.

Wilco has been playing more than 30 songs on its current tour, including an encore.

Flashback: The band last played Cleveland in 2015 at Masonic Auditorium, a concert that featured two memorable encores.

The big picture: Cain Park is coming off one of its biggest years ever in 2024, hosting the likes of My Morning Jacket, Trombone Shorty and Big Boi of Outkast.

This year's lineup has been equally, if not more impressive, with shows headlined by acts like Dispatch, Béla, Andy Grammer and Moe.

What they're saying: "The thing I'm most excited about is [Wilco] is playing outdoors at a venue that's not Blossom," Lakewood resident Scott Stahl, who has seen the band 10 times, tells Axios.

"I love getting to drive just 20 minutes away to see one of my favorite bands."
