Cleveland Hopkins to allow non-travelers past security starting Aug. 11

The big picture: The program will offer travelers and their loved ones the opportunity for final farewells or a last-minute meal in the terminal.

• It also means that adults can escort younger travelers or seniors who may need assistance to their gates.

How it works: Interested guests must apply for a pass between 24 hours and seven days in advance.

• Approved visitors will be allowed to enter the airport from 7am to 10pm, but access will be capped at 100 passes per day to avoid overwhelming TSA checkpoints.
• Passholders will go through the same security screening as ticketed passengers and may bring one personal item, like a purse or laptop bag.
