More than 300 artists have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with a new batch of honorees being celebrated in November.
State of play: The Rock Hall has branched out and embraced genres like hip-hop, country and pop over the past decade.
- While it seems like accomplished artists in just about every mainstream music genre now have a shot at getting in, a few amazing acts still feel like long shots. Here's five:
Nas
Hip-hop has been one of the Rock Hall's most bankable genres in recent years, and Nas is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time.
Yes, but: His more commercially successful peers like Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z have made it in without Nas receiving a nomination.
Bjork
She's one of the most singular artists of the last 30 years who has influenced contemporary artists like SZA and Paramore.
Yes, but: Though the recent induction of Kate Bush offers a sliver of hope, Bjork's genre-bending music may be too weird for the nominating committee and voters.
Elliott Smith

He was the indie-folk hero for a generation of older millennials that flocked to Pitchfork, and even earned an Oscar nomination before his death in 2003.
Yes, but: Despite being revered as a singer-songwriter, Smith never registered a hit on the mainstream charts.
Television
The most artistic of punk bands was recently listed by Ultimate Classic Rock as one of the "Big 4" of punk rock history.
Yes, but: The other three — The Clash, Sex Pistols and Ramones — were inducted long ago while Television has yet to be nominated.
Tangerine Dream
The progressive German band helped pioneer electronica in the late 1960s and has remained relevant by composing the influential video game soundtrack to 2013's "Grand Theft Auto V."
Yes, but: Tangerine Dream is still somewhat obscure. Electronic music hasn't done well, as artists like New Order, Giorgio Moroder and Daft Punk are still on the outside looking in.
