Cuyahoga County BOE moves into former Plain Dealer HQ

Between the lines: It's roughly one mile away from the BOE's previous location on Euclid Avenue and includes ample surface parking of nearly 800 spaces to accommodate the increasing number of voters who cast early ballots.

• Parking accessibility was a major reason the Cuyahoga County Council approved a 17-year, $91 million lease of the new space.
• It will be paid from the county's general fund and Health and Human Services levy dollars.

Flashback: The 235,000 square-foot office building opened in 2001 as the PD headquarters.

• As the paper's staff shrank through the 2000s and 2010s, the paper leased portions of the building to other tenants and finally sold it in 2022.

The fine print: Though the Candidate and Petitions Services Department opens Monday, the BOE is calling this a "soft opening." The full office will formally open in the coming weeks.
