Hulk Hogan is bringing Real American wrestling to Cleveland

The intrigue: Unlike the WWE-style professional wrestling Hogan became famous for, RAF will feature the kind of "unscripted" freestyle wrestling you see at the Olympics.

• Hogan will serve as commissioner of RAF, which also includes former pro wrestling executive Eric Bischoff and wrestling coach Israel Martinez on its executive team.

State of play: RAF will offer financial prizes such as win bonuses and championship purses to its male and female athletes.

• The promotion will also adhere to NCAA regulations, allowing college wrestlers to compete.

What they're saying: "Real American wrestlers are some of the most disciplined, elite athletes in the world," Hogan said in a statement.

• "But until now, they haven't had a true professional stage to showcase their greatness."

Zoom in: A spokesperson told Axios the venue for Real American Freestyle will be announced in the coming days.

• Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center, which just hosted an All Elite Wrestling event, seems like a strong candidate.

Between the lines: Hogan was in Northeast Ohio in February to promote his Real American Beer brand at various venues.

The big picture: He has extended an invitation to President Trump to attend RAF's opening night.

• Hogan supported Trump on the campaign trail and the president recently attended a UFC event in Miami.
