A new music venue opens its doors Friday in Cleveland.
The intrigue: Globe Iron is the latest addition to concert promoter AEG Presents' local portfolio.
- The venue, located at 2325 Elm St. in the Flats West Bank, hosts its first concert when local group How We Feel takes the stage at 7:30pm.
Flashback: The 1,200-capacity club is located inside the historic Globe Iron Works steel foundry building, which dates back to the 1800s.
- The building housed the Metropolis nightclub in the 1990s and early 2000s, hosting concerts by rap stars like Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane and Jeezy.
By the numbers: AEG spokesperson Mike Tata says the building underwent a "multimillion-dollar" rehabilitation and renovation project.
- Globe Iron already has more than 35 concerts scheduled before the end of the year, in addition to private events like corporate functions and weddings.
The big picture: AEG, the world's second-largest concert promoter behind Live Nation, made its first big move in the market when it purchased the Agora's operating rights in 2017.
- The company then took over operations of Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica, previously run by Live Nation, in 2021.
💠Troy's thought bubble: Globe Iron has an industrial feel with exposed brick. It also has better sightlines than a venue like House of Blues.
- Globe Iron could become a hub for the kinds of hip-hop and EDM concerts that once drew young adults to the Flats.
What's next: Other shows at Globe Iron this month include Mushroomhead, Shakey Graves, Absolute Intense Wrestling and actor/musician Zack Fox of "Abbott Elementary" fame.
