Bibb sounds off on Haslam lawsuit

Zoom in: The Haslam Sports Group countered the narrative that it is fleeing Cleveland, saying it planned to invest $2 billion in the Brook Park stadium and the adjoining development, less than a mile from the Cleveland city limits.

The other side: In a statement, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb called the Haslams lawsuit "misleading" and noted the city had invested millions in a lakefront master plan, with a downtown stadium as its centerpiece.

• The "reimagined" lakefront stadium would cost taxpayers less than half of the Brook Park facility, Bibb said.

What they're saying: "The Haslam stadium ploy raises more questions than it answers and makes wild assumptions that will crush taxpayers," he said.

• "Their scheme relies on average ticket prices nearing $700, parking rates north of $100, increasing taxes for hotels, parking, and rental cars, and the assumption thousands of people will pay high rent to live in luxury apartments in the shadow of the airport."
