State of play: That makes us a bit more Irish than the national average and right in the middle of the pack in Ohio.
Driving the news: The percentages will certainly seem a lot higher next week, as Cleveland celebrates St. Patrick's Day.
Zoom in: With around 148,000 people claiming Irish heritage, Cuyahoga County has the second-highest total in the state, behind only Franklin County.
By the numbers: The state's Irish heritage is fairly consistent across the board. Only 10 of Ohio's 88 counties are less than 10% Irish.
- As a percentage, Lake County (17.6%) and Medina County (16.4%), both of which border Cuyahoga, are ranked first and third statewide.
