University Hospitals planning Hough affordable housing project

• Research shows that housing quality impacts quality of life as a key "social determinant of health."

State of play: UH's board recently approved the $3 million investment in Gateway66, a mixed-use development at the corner of East 66th Street and Linwood Avenue.

• The proposed 80-unit project will include a pair of four-story towers and set aside units for tenants at various income thresholds, including eight for those making up to 30% of the area median income.
• Only four units will be market-rate.

Zoom out: After decades of disinvestment, the neighborhood has seen a flood of new construction in recent years, including the Cleveland Foundation headquarters and the Midtown Collaboration Center.

• Gateway66 will be a component of the larger Allen Estates project, a five-acre, $100 million mixed-income housing development near historic League Park that broke ground in 2022.
