NFL medical officials are pointing to players choosing new helmet models as a reason concussions continue to decline.
Driving the news: Thirty teams brought the helmets into their locker rooms this season, including the Browns and Super Bowl LIX contenders Kansas City and Philadelphia.
Why it matters: The number of head injuries in football is the lowest it's been since tracking began in 2015, according to the league.
By the numbers: Diagnosed concussions are down 17% compared to last season, per data the NFL provided to Axios.
Yes, but: No headgear is considered 100% concussion-proof.
Zoom in: Browns Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward was wearing one of the new helmets made by sports equipment company Riddell when he suffered the sixth documented concussion of his career in a game on Oct. 27.
