Cavs are NBA's only team with three All-Stars

The Cleveland Cavaliers' Darius Garland and Evan Mobley were named 2024-2025 NBA Eastern Conference All-Stars Thursday.

Why it matters: They join All-Star starter Donovan Mitchell, making the Cavs the only team in the NBA with three players represented at the league's annual showcase.

Flashback: This marks the fourth occasion in franchise history that the Cavs have received three NBA All-Star selections.

In 1989 and 1993, Brad Daugherty, Mark Price and Larry Nance represented the Cavs at the All-Star Game.
In 2017, fresh off an NBA Championship, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love all received Eastern Conference nods.

The latest: This year, head coach Kenny Atkinson will be on the sideline.

He joins Tyronn Lue (2016), Mike Brown (2009) and Lenny Wilkens (1989) as Cavs coaches to have earned All-Star coaching honors.

By the numbers: Garland is averaging a career-high in points (21.7) and is the NBA player closest to the vaunted 50/40/90 club. He is shooting .499 from the field, .425 from three, and .883 from the free-throw line.

Evan Mobley is averaging a career-high in points (18.2) and is one of only four NBA players averaging 18+ points, 8+ rebounds, 1.5+ blocks, and a steal per game.
The other three (Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo) have also been named All-Stars.

What's next: In a new tournament format, the All-Star Game tips off at 8pm in San Francisco on Feb. 16.
