Cavaliers franchise value rises to nearly $4 billion

The Cavaliers franchise is valued at $3.95 billion, according to Sportico's annual NBA team valuations.

By the numbers: That's up nearly 23% from $3.22 billion last year, the third-highest percentage increase among franchises.

The Cavs' valuation ranks 19th out of 30 NBA teams.

How it works: Sportico's assessment considers a team's real estate holdings, annual revenue and other team-related businesses.

Flashback: Cavs majority owner Dan Gilbert purchased the team $375 million in 2005, a then-record price for an NBA team.

The big picture: The Golden State Warriors have the highest valuation at $9.14 billion, followed by the New York Knicks ($8.3 billion) and Los Angeles Lakers ($8.07 billion).
