It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Cleveland in the "Superman" trailer

The intrigue: The trailer includes a series of action scenes featuring Cleveland landmarks like Terminal Tower, Key Tower, Public Square and The Arcade standing in for the fictional city of Metropolis.

• The Leader Building on Superior Avenue is used as the setting for The Daily Planet, where Superman's alter ego Clark Kent and his love interest Lois Lane work as reporters.

Between the lines: Another major highlight is Superman (played by David Corenswet) battling it out at a ballpark that is Progressive Field.

• There's also a scene showing Hawkgirl, played by Cleveland native Isabela Merced, flying towards a battle. 

Flashback: Cleveland natives Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created the character of Superman in 1933, which made his print debut five years later in Action Comics #1.

What's next: A tribute plaza paying homage to Superman, Siegel and Shuster in downtown Cleveland is in the works.

• "Superman" is scheduled to hit theaters July 11.
