"The Book of Hov" sheds light on Jay-Z's Rock Hall induction

The intrigue: One of the images included is of Jay-Z's Rock Hall induction at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, per Billboard.

• In the book, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame chairman John Sykes recalls giving Jay-Z the news of his induction but not knowing if the rap legend would attend.

What they said: "Jay's response to my good news was not exactly what I was expecting. 'Rock is dead,' he said. 'Rap is the new rock,'" Sykes writes.

• "My last words, as I pleaded for Jay to come to Cleveland to accept his award, were that Rock & Roll is not any one sound, rather a gumbo."

The bottom line: Sykes didn't know if Jay-Z would show until the rapper arrived in Cleveland the night of the ceremony, where he was inducted by comedian Dave Chappelle.
