Banned Wagon offers free books at Lakewood Library

What can we say, we're Banned Wagon fans.

Driving the news: The publisher Penguin Random House's second-annual Banned Wagon Tour began last week and is making nine stops across the Midwest and South to hand out free copies of banned or censored books.

It'll be at the Lakewood Public Library today from 3-7pm.

Why it matters: Penguin Random House says its goal is to "protect the freedom to read and spark conversations about the societal impact of book bans in our communities," per a news release.

The latest: Per the American Library Association, there have been 13 censorship attempts targeting 24 titles in Ohio so far this year.

The list includes multiple titles by romantasy author Sarah J. Maas and young adult romance author Jenny Han.

State of play: The tour is happening in conjunction with Banned Books Week (Sept. 22-28).

Attendees will be allowed to select one free book while supplies last.
The Banned Wagon will also provide information to help people fight censorship in their communities.
