Cleveland gets $10.6 million for electric buses

State of play: The project, operated out of RTA's Hayden Garage in East Cleveland, will replace 10 diesel buses with EVs.

• Additionally, it will support the installation of three EV charging stations.

What they're saying: "This federal grant will help bring cleaner air, cleaner transit, and more direct investment to Northeast Ohio," Brown said in a statement.

The big picture: The RTA award is part of the Federal Transit Administration's Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities program supporting 117 projects in 47 states.

• Elsewhere in Ohio, projects in Columbus, Stark County and Mahoning County also received funding.

What's next: RTA plans to conduct a fleet electrification study and expects that the new vehicles and charging infrastructure will be in place by spring 2027.
